Clint Dempsey was named the Fulham’s Monster Player of the Month for April.
The American international became Fulham’s joint top scorer in the Barclays Premier League with a brace in Fulham’s 3-1 win at the City of Manchester Stadium on Easter Sunday. This was good and all, but this is what made me “proud”.
Fox Soccer Channel shows a program, Fanzone, where they let two fans, one from each team, commentate a match. This genius idea has produced some of the best commentary that I have ever witnessed. One commentary highlight being the match between Fulham and Manchester City. Keep in mind this has nothing to do with my intense hatred for Man City, or my American citizenship. It went as follows.
As Dempsey scored his second goal of the match the Fanzone commentator for Fulham went nuts, which is normal. The Manchester City fan slumped down in his chair trying to melt through the floor just to escape the room, which is also normal. The classic part was once the Fulham fan ended his yell, he immediately broke out into song… “God bless America…” was the song he chose, and he marched around the booth singing at the top of his lungs. Fan-freakin-tastic.
